Born out of a love for God and a desire to connect people to the healing power of God’s love, the Cathedral Free Clinic is a non-profit ministry that seeks to offer free medical and spiritual care to those in need. The opportunity began with a dream to offer patients free healthcare and “soulcare.” Drawing from the story of Christ’s healing of the paralytic (Luke 5:17-26), we want modern medicine and the ancient practice of prayer to work together to offer patients healing for the body and the soul.
The idea became a reality with the support of Bishop Robert Gruss and the Saginaw Diocese and through the generosity of Ascension Healthcare, who donated one of its properties to the Saginaw Diocese to help establish the Cathedral Free Clinic.
The clinic is located at the Center of Hope, a building situated between MyMichigan Hospital and the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption. The clinic is located in the heart of Cathedral District in Saginaw, Michigan. We are grateful to many area donors who helped to make this dream into a brick-and-mortar ministry that seeks to foster hope and health in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
The clinic is especially grateful for the time, talents and support of the Wolohan Family Foundation, Shaheen Development, the Steven Raiche family and many other generous area donors. With their support, Cathedral Free Clinic has installed four new medical exam rooms, a medical dispensary and an onsite chapel for prayer and meditation.
On May 1 of 2025, the Center of Hope will become St. Mary’s Center of Hope. The new name bears witness to our mission to bring hope through healing and health. Furthermore, we wish to honor the history and generosity of Ascension St. Mary’s and recall the legacy of the medical mission started by the Daughters of Charity, in this same location, in 1874. The Cathedral Free Clinic will be the only free medical clinic in Saginaw County and is honored to open its doors during the Jubilee year of Hope, 2025.
